Applicants to the program must meet all provincial eligibility criteria for candidates before applying for a job in Barrhead. Eligible employers with vacant positions are posted here.

To be eligible for an endorsement letter in Barrhead, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Candidate must review & meet Provincial eligibility requirements
    • At least 12 months full-time work experience in the last 18 months (in Canada or abroad).
    • English proficiency & passed fluency test.
    • Completed minimum high school education (equivalent to Canadian standard).
    • Demonstrate sufficient funds to support themselves and their family.
    • Full list of eligibility requirements found here.
  • Candidate must "intend to be able to reside & work in the Barrhead Community".
    • Candidate does not necessarily need to reside in Barrhead when they request municipal endorsement, but it is required by the time AAIP reviews their nomination application.
    • Whether or not the candidate is in Barrhead, they must be living in Canada before requesting endorsement.
  • Candidate must have a valid temporary work permit which allows them to start work in Barrhead immediately.
    • If the candidate does not have a valid temporary work permit or is unable to start work in Barrhead (for example, a closed work permit issued in a community outside Barrhead), the candidate is not eligible to receive a municipal endorsement letter from the Barrhead Community.
    • By focusing on candidates already able to start work in Barrhead, employers will be able to fill positions as soon as a job is offered, as candidates can start work while waiting for provincial/federal applications to be reviewed.
Additional Criteria:
(After September 1, 2024)
The following criteria are required for requests with a job offer dated AFTER September 1, 2024:
  • Candidate's work permit must be eligible for at least 8 months after endorsement letter request.
    • AAIP can take months to review nomination applications, and this helps ensure candidates can continue to work in Barrhead while their provincial nomination application processes. Current AAIP processing timelines found here.
  • Candidate must be offered a wage (including benefits) of at least $20.00 per hour.
    • This helps ensure that candidates can afford to live in Barrhead long-term.
Please note that these changes only affect requests with a job offer dated AFTER September 1, 2024.  If the employer was registered in the Rural Renewal Stream and issued a job offer BEFORE September 1, 2024, these 2 criteria are recommended, but not mandatory.  This is to accommodate for registered employers who require completion of a successful probationary period before supporting their candidates with endorsement.
