Every year, County of Barrhead offers residents a chance to buy a variety of shelterbelt trees.

Planting a shelterbelt can provide many benefits and serve multiple functions.  For example, a shelterbelt planted:
  • Along a crop field can prevent soil erosion and trap snow to increase moisture
  • Around livestock operations can help manage farm odour, dust, and other air emissions
  • Around a farmstead can protect from high winds, minimize snow drifting in winter, and increases pollinator & wildlife habitat
